Can you feel it? That pull……..you’ll feel it in your chest, take a deep breath and think “soon……..very soon.” Living in Northern California, it’s a very familiar pull to someplace where you can’t get a cell signal and the Tahoe run-off beckons you away from your day to day.
Camping season is here and if you have witnessed I-80 or Hwy 50 on a Sunday afternoon lately, you know that the seasonal pull has begun and EVERYONE is feeling it!
Here at Kniesel’s Auto Service Center, we are no different. Everyone here has felt the pull and making their plans even as we speak. Showing each other pictures of our favorite campgrounds has become a Monday ritual.
So grab your hiking shoes, your pooch and make some plans! That Tahoe run-off waits for no one!
Service Advisor Joe Gangl likes to go off the beaten path……. A family favorite is Spring Valley Lake, north of Marysville. They like to bring quads and four wheel drive vehicles to really get out there…..cell service not included.
This week, like most every week, Service Manager Vince Riolo is fishing. Of coarse it depends on the season, but this week he is fishing for Halibut at Dillons Beach. Dillons Beach is west of Petaluma off Hwy 1 & Dillons Beach Rd.

Last weekend, Tav went to Loon Lake campground near Ice House. About a 2 hr drive from Sacramento off of Ice House road. It was nice and quiet. The campground had restrooms and separate running water. There are hiking trails for day use and Desolation Wilderness for the hardcore and Rubicon Trail for the off-road.

Sugar Pine Reservoir is my go to when I have to get away! Its just past Forresthill, so its close. The water is beautiful! And my dogs LOVE it. No cell service, which is a bonus, in my book. And while the water may take a minute to adjust to (quite cold) when those temperatures hit the triple digits, it is MUCH appreciated.
If your looking for someplace to go just for the day AND dirt roads are ok, Codfish Creek Trail has some of that gorgeous Tahoe run-off. Not to mention a rope swing from the bridge. The road getting there was slightly harrowing, but if a Honda Accord can make it, anything can.
